A Proposal for T.
These works originated in my first visit to Topolo in 2010. While working on my piece there I took the opportunity to separately record each of the players in what would become the You Know Sextet (well not including me that is). When I returned to New York I spent time with the recordings and made a five tape pieces â one for each performer. I returned in 2012 to Topolo and we were able to perform each piece with the musician it was composed for. This download release presents both the original tape only version as well as the live recorded version for pre-recorded material and performer. The pre-recorded material in performance was modified during rehearsals as the original material was somewhat dense. So this was an opportunity to in fact have two sets of pieces. I hope the listener enjoys and I want to thank Massimo Croce for his interest in releasing this, Moreno, Donatella and the whole Topolo family. And of course the musicians who were so integral in making this happen: Marta Hari, Veronika Vitazkova, Antonio Della Marina, Michele Spanghero and Sandro Carta. My deepest love and respect.). Al Margolis (if, Bwana) http://www.ifbwana.com/ http://www.pogus.com/
Al Margolis has been an activist in the 1980s American cassette underground through his cassette label Sound of Pig Music; was co-founder of experimental music label Pogus Productions, which he continues to run. Antonio Della Marina is an Italian electronic composer and sound artist, who for several years has focused on working with sinusoids. Clearly influenced by the minimalist avant-garde of the American east coast in the sixties and seventies, his work exploits the physical properties of sounds and the use of microtonal tuning systems. Della Marina uses mathematical abstractions and custom built sound generators to shape his compositions which are offered in the form of sonorous sound sculptures. In the last few years she has explored the field of free improvisation in solo or ensemble, often in contact with other arts (poetry, painting, acting). Together with Michele Spaghero and Sandro Carta she fouded the Tribil Trio, she's part of the contemporary music ensemble Utopic Blok (first Italian performance of Kolme puuta, kolme poikaa by the Finnish composer Olli Mustonen) and of the TMO - Topolovska Minimalna Orkestra. Besides, she recorded and performed the first première of "Fragmet-azioni per arpa concertante ensemble" by D. Terranova, and took part soundtracks for in films, audibooks and documentaries (National Geographics). Since 2010 is resident artist at Stazione di Topolò/Postaja Topolove.
